Keeping A Healthy Heart

Keep Your Heart Healthy at Womens Fitness Clubs of Canada

February is Women’s Heart Health Month, and to celebrate, Womens Fitness Clubs of Canada can help you stay heart healthy! Heart disease affects women more than any type of cancer or other illness, but you can stop heart disease in its tracks.

If you are concerned about your heart health, talk to your doctor about lifestyle changes you can make now to help prevent heart disease. Your doctor may suggest activities such as more exercise, healthier food choices, better sleep and less stress.

Here’s what you need to know about our gym. The services and amenities we offer are geared to help you reach your health and wellness goals! We have the equipment and trainers who will guide you toward the most effective exercise options and healthy food selections.

If you’ve not exercised for a while, start your journey with a personal trainer. Your certified trainer will work with you to develop a road map to success, with suggestions for a workout that is appropriate for your age, weight and fitness level. We want to be sure you start slowly and find a routine you’ll enjoy and be committed to, and we have lots of options from which you can choose.

Let’s say you enjoy working out with a group. Each of our gym locations offers numerous types of group classes, from HIIT (high intensity interval training), cardio interval training and step circuit – to lower impact options like the mindful movements of Yoga and Pilates. The key is just to get moving! The goal is to increase your heart rate and breathing capacity, but you don’t want to start at a level that’s uncomfortable or risky. Start slowly and build, all the while fostering your confidence while you improve your heart health. A personal trainer will show you how.

For an aerobic workout guaranteed to rev your heart rate, Womens Fitness Clubs of Canada also offers cardio training and equipment like treadmills, cycles and ellipticals. You can start slow at a low-intensity level, or blast off into a calorie-burning, fat-shredding zone. You control your own pace.

Our health clubs also offer nutritional counseling to help you learn wise, heart healthy food choices.

Women experience very different symptoms when they are in danger of a heart attack:

  • Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing and fullness or pain in the center of the chest. This pain can last for more than a few minutes or it can go away and come back frequently.
  • Pain or discomfort that is located in one or both of the arms, back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  • Shortness of breath that is with or without chest discomfort
  • Breaking out into a cold sweat and feelings of nausea that may be accompanied by vomiting, and lightheadedness.

If you experience any of these symptoms, call for help immediately. Minutes matter!
