The WFCC personal trainers and kinesiologists had lots of fun at the CanFitPro conference two weekends ago… but they also enjoyed some major success. Our Promenade personal trainer Sandra Agostini was the grand prize winner in a push-up contest sponsored by personal training and fitness guru Tommy Europe!
We asked her to share her secrets for a workout that will help anyone improve their push-up proficiency, and here’s what she said:
“The three major muscle groups involved in a push up are the pectorals, the triceps and anterior, and the deltoids. When you work your pectorals – that is, your chest muscles – the other two muscle groups also assist. So any chest press exercises will do, on the machines or alone!
To progress in doing actual push-ups, start first doing them against the wall, then on the floor on your knees, and then on your toes.
Also, keeping your core engaged is crucial. Planks are one of the best core exercises.”
