Halloween is here, bringing with it unending temptations. Your kids get all dressed up, hit the streets, and return with bags of delicious sugary treats. Once you’ve divided up the sweets for your kids and their sugar comas set in, it’s hard to resist diving into their stash yourself.

But how can you resist overdosing on Halloween’s tempting treats? Read on for some creative ways to use up those Halloween treats.

Crafts are a great way to use up excess candy. Forget crayons and markers, use Skittles, Smarties, and other colourful candy to create beautiful works of art. Or save it until the holidays when you can use it to build unique, tasty gingerbread houses, add décor to gifts, and as decoration for your table and tree.

Use it as a learning tool. Teach your kids the fun of addition, subtraction, and multiplication with their leftover candy. And give them a treat as a reward to keep them engaged.

Adult tastes call for adult treats. So why not infuse vodka (or the alcohol of your choice) with some of that leftover candy? Your next cocktail will be delicious, and since you’re consuming so little of the candy it’s totally guilt free! (Just make sure not to drink too much!)

You can also donate leftover candy to homeless shelters, food banks, and hospitals where kids in need will enjoy the tasty treats your own children couldn’t get to. It’s important this time of year to remember those less fortunate than us.

And if you must indulge, remember that moderation is key.
