What is a Target Heart Rate and Why Does it Matter?

Have you been searching for the best cardio workout around? A routine that will help you strengthen and tone muscles — and burn calories and fat? With amenities that include everything from energetic group exercise classes to work-at-your-own-pace equipment, our fitness center in Thornhill (located in the Promenade Mall) offers cardio training options for every fitness level. And with proper cardio activity, you are better able to increase your heart rate and burn fat.

How does that work, exactly?

Increasing your heart rate allows oxygen to distribute itself better throughout your body – which not only increases your energy, but it also puts your body into fat-burning mode.

To achieve peak fitness it is recommended that when you exercise you remain within 55-85% of your maximum heart rate for at least 30 minutes. To calculate your maximum heart rate, subtract your age from 220. The maximum heart rate is the upper limit of what your cardiovascular system is able to handle while exercising.

With the cardio training equipment we offer at our Thornhill fitness center – such as treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and stairclimbers — you will be able to achieve those fitness goals in no time.

Personal trainers are on hand to help you determine the most effective way to exercise. Depending on your current level of fitness, and the goal you want to reach, a personal trainer can help you develop a plan that includes intensity, speed, and duration.  After all, you want to succeed, right? By learning which exercises will work best – and other important stats for fat and calorie burning, such as target heart rate – you’ll be on the road to success in no time.

We can’t wait to help you reach your health and wellness goals, and cardio training at Womens Fitness Clubs of Canada will be one of the many ways we can get you there. Come see us — and get that heart working!
